North Bohemia is a region rich in cultural monuments, the origins of which date back as far as to the Roman era and continue right up until recent years - beautiful fortresses, ruins of Gothic forts, castles, historic city centres, churches, as well as more modern architecture.

From recent history, we can mention Terezin (Theresienstadt) - the large labour camp in the territory of the former Czechoslovakia during the Second World War. But we can also admire the attractive natural landscape with its sandstone formations, bizarre rocks, abysses and canyons in this region - a magnificent world, which is called Czech-Saxon Switzerland. The formation of the landscapeås natural peculiarity was helped by the fact that this was once a region of volcanic activity. Bathing and water-sports are on offer on the vast Macha lake and not far from Kamenický ©enov where the famous Bohemian crystal chandeliers are produced.
